Pre-Wedding Planning: Laying the Groundwork
Setting Your Budget
Let’s talk numbers! It’s no secret that weddings can be a significant investment. Setting a realistic budget from the start is crucial to avoid any financial surprises. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track:
- Prioritise: Decide what’s most important to you, whether it’s the venue, the food, or the photography (hint, hint!). Allocate your budget accordingly.
- Track Expenses: Use a spreadsheet or budgeting app to keep tabs on your spending.
- Don’t Forget the Little Things: Factor in those extra costs like stationery, transport, and gratuities.
Venue Vibe
Your venue sets the stage for your entire day. Consider the size of your guest list, the style of your wedding, and the overall ambience you want to create. Here are some questions to ask potential venues:
- What dates are available?
- What’s included in the package?
- Can we bring in our own vendors?
Timeline Triumphs
A well-structured timeline is your secret weapon for a smooth and stress-free wedding day. Work backwards from your ceremony time, allocating time for getting ready, taking photos, and doing any other activities you have planned. Don’t forget to build in some buffer time for unexpected delays!
Vendor Village
From florists to caterers to DJs, your vendors play a vital role in bringing your vision to life. Choose vendors whose style aligns with yours and who you feel comfortable communicating with. Don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations and read reviews before making your decisions.
Entertainment Ideas: Keeping Your Guests Engaged
In my opinion, one of THE most important things on a wedding day is to keep your guests having THE most amazing time – and avoid any dreaded ‘twiddling your thumbs’ lulls where they have nothing to do!
Your wedding day is a celebration, and what’s a celebration without some fantastic entertainment? Here are some ideas to get you started:
Music to Move You
- Live Band: Bring the house down with a lively band that knows how to get your guests on the dance floor. From my experience, both as a wedding photographer and as a groom, nothing beats a great live band to keep the dancefloor full – ALL night long!
- DJ: A talented DJ can curate the perfect playlist to keep the energy high all night long.
- Acoustic Set: Create a relaxed and intimate atmosphere with an acoustic guitarist or singer. This can be during your ceremony and through cocktail hour – there are so many truly amazing musicians out there.
- String Quartet: Add a touch of elegance with a classical string quartet during your ceremony or drinks reception.
Interactive Fun
- Photo Booth: A photo booth is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, providing instant memories and lots of laughs.
- Lawn Games: Giant Jenga, croquet, or even a bouncy castle can add a playful touch to your outdoor reception.
- Magician: Wow your guests with a talented magician who can perform close-up magic or a stage show.
- Singing waiters: They can truly get the party started, and the drinks flowing!
Unique Touches
- Caricature Artist: Give your guests a unique keepsake with a fun and personalized caricature.
- Fire Dancers: For a truly spectacular display, consider hiring fire dancers to perform during your evening reception.
- Sparklers, smoke bombs and Fireworks are always a way to get your wedding party smiling – they also make for amazing wedding photographs!
Remember, the best entertainment is the kind that reflects your personality and creates a memorable experience for everyone
Stress-Free Wedding Day: Making Sure That You Enjoy EVERY Moment!
It’s finally here – your wedding day! After months of planning and preparation, it’s time to relax, enjoy, and celebrate your love. Here are a few tips to help you stay calm and present throughout the day:
- Delegate, Delegate, Delegate: Don’t try to do everything yourself! Assign tasks to trusted friends or family members so you can focus on enjoying the day.
- Time for Touch-ups: Schedule some buffer time for hair and makeup touch-ups throughout the day, especially after those emotional moments!
- Embrace the Unexpected: Remember, not everything will go exactly according to plan, and that’s okay! Embrace the unexpected and remember that those little hiccups often make the best stories.
- Soak it all in: Take a moment to pause, breathe, and truly appreciate the experience. The day will fly by, so make sure to savour every moment.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for couples to relax and enjoy their day. I once had a couple who were so worried about sticking to their timeline that they barely had time to speak to their guests! Remember, the most important thing is to celebrate your love with the people you care about most.
Modern. Natural. Stress-free.
