500 weddings and 20 years in. Still obsessed. Still the one sneaking round the back of the dancefloor at 10pm to catch just one more shot.

Nice to meet you, I'm Phil!

Hey, I’m Phil!

I’ve been doing this since 2004 and my whole thing has never changed. Get out of the way. Earn people’s trust. Let the day happen in front of me and photograph the hell out of it.

I’m not for everyone — and that’s fine. I’m for the couples who want to actually be at their wedding. Who want to cry at the vows, lose track of time, do terrible dancing and hug their mates for way too long!

If that sounds like you — we’re probably going to get on brilliantly.

Outside of weddings, I live near Sherwood Forest with my wife Melanie, our six-year-old son Albert, two gloriously daft dogs, and more Lego and Minecraft than any adult should reasonably admit to.

Oh, and you’re getting lots OF little video clips too. Yes, really. Yes, it’s free.

Every package includes Video Content Creation as standard — no extra cost, no film crew, no faff.

While I’m shooting your stills, I’m grabbing short natural clips at the same time. The laughter. The confetti going everywhere. The first dance before anyone’s really performing for the camera yet.

Ready for your phone the next day. Made for Reels, TikTok, or just watching back at midnight with a glass of wine, going “wait, was that actually us?”

Yorkshire & Nottinghamshire Wedding Photographer & Venue Guides

I know these venues like the back of my hand. Where the light falls at golden hour. The quiet corners nobody else finds. The spots that look incredible in photos but somehow never make it onto the venue’s own Instagram.

That means less thinking for you and better photos for everyone. Here are some of my favourites — real weddings, honest tips, no waffle. You’ll find plenty more over on the blog.

Real Weddings, Real Words

“Where to even start writing this review? We hadn’t had time to meet Phil before the big day, but that didn’t matter…I felt like he was an old friend as soon as we met. He was so friendly and warm and put my nerves right at ease whilst waiting to get married. My husband doesn’t enjoy standing for photos for long, and the way Phil quickly did the family photos kept everyone happy!

All our guests commented on how lovely, fun and down-to-earth he was!

He caught the candid, off-guard photos, and the end results are incredible. We will cherish these photos forever.

So, thank you, Phil – our wedding day wouldn’t have been the same without you, and I will always tear up when I look at our wedding pictures! “

“Phil was fantastic from start to finish, really friendly and approachable throughout the booking process, then made us both feel so comfortable on our wedding day with his warmth and humour.
The results are absolutely stunning! He fully captured the relaxed vibe of our wedding day and highlighted the best parts of our unusual venue! We couldn’t be happier with the results!”

“Phil was truly the best photographer we could have hoped for on our wedding day. As two people who are far from comfortable in front of a camera, we were quite nervous about being in the spotlight all day. However, from the moment we started our pre-wedding photoshoot to the very last photo of our wedding night, Phil made us feel so relaxed and at ease that we actually enjoyed having our photo taken! We were originally drawn to Phil’s work because of his style and skill for capturing natural and candid moments, and he certainly delivered.

Our guests also commented on how Phil blended in; his presence was very natural throughout the entire wedding, which is exactly the vibe we were after!”

“We really couldn't recommend Phil enough! An absolutely amazing photographer with an incredible eye for amazing shots. He really captured the natural joy and happiness on our wedding day. The quality of the shots are unreal and we will definitely be using him again in the future for family photoshoots! Thank you!”

Hate having your photo taken? You’re literally my favourite kind of couple.

Most of my couples say the same thing when we first speak: “we’re really not photo people.” And then they get their gallery back and completely forget they ever said that!

Frequently Asked Wedding Photography Questions

Documentary wedding photography — sometimes called reportage or photojournalism — means capturing your day as it actually unfolds, with no staged group shots or forced poses. You get real laughter, real tears, real chaos. I blend into the background and photograph the moments that happen naturally, so your photos feel like memories rather than a catalogue.

Yes — while I'm based in Yorkshire and shoot across the county regularly, I cover the whole of the UK. I've photographed weddings in London, the Lake District, the Cotswolds, and beyond. Travel is included, so there will be no nasty surprises in the quote! The only exception is for destination weddings abroad.

Each wedding is different! As a guestimate for a full wedding day, I typically deliver 650-1000+ fully edited images, depending on the length of coverage. Every photo is colour-graded and exported at full resolution, ready to print. You'll receive them via a private online gallery within 4–6 weeks of your wedding day.

Most couples book me 12–18 months ahead, and popular summer Saturdays fill up earliest. If your date is under 12 months away, it's still worth getting in touch — I do take late bookings when the date is available. The honest answer: as soon as you know you like my work, don't wait.

In 20+ years and 500+ weddings it hasn't happened, but I take it seriously. I maintain a trusted network of professional photographers I'd call on in an emergency — people whose work I know and whose style complements mine. You'd hear from me the moment I knew there was a problem, and I'd do everything possible to ensure you had a photographer you could trust.

I specialise in photography; however, every package includes Video Content Creation as standard — no extra cost, no film crew, no faff!

While I’m shooting your stills, I’m grabbing short natural clips at the same time: The laughter. The confetti going everywhere. Perfect for reels and your socails!

If you're looking for a full wedding videographer experience, I'm happy to recommend people whose work I rate highly and who I've worked alongside on numerous occasions.

Absolutely — some of my favourite photos have come from grey skies, rain, and winter light. Yorkshire weather is basically part of the brand. The only thing that changes is the location of a few shots; the documentary approach stays exactly the same. I always scout backup indoor options with venues in advance. Check out my Filey Brig elopement over on my blog for proof!

For formal family groups, yes — a short list of must-have combinations is really helpful, and I'll work through it efficiently. For the rest of the day, I'd gently talk you out of it. Shot lists pull me out of the documentary flow and mean I'm watching a piece of paper instead of watching your dad's face when you walk down the aisle. Trust me on this one.

Yes — for larger weddings or venues with multiple simultaneous moments (ceremony in one room, getting ready in another), a second photographer can be added. I work with a small group of trusted photographers whose style matches mine. It's something worth discussing at the enquiry stage so we can quote accordingly.

My editing style is clean, timeless, and film-influenced — natural skin tones, slightly lifted shadows, and a palette that won't look dated in 20 years. I stay well away from heavy filters or the kind of processing that makes everyone look orange. The goal is that your photos look like your wedding, not a preset pack.

Drop me a message via the contact page, and we'll have a chat — either on a call or over email, whatever suits you. To secure your date, I ask for a booking fee (typically 25% of the total), with the balance due a few weeks before the wedding. Everything is covered by a plain-English contract, so there are no surprises.
