Peak Edge Hotel Wedding Photographer: Rustic, Relaxed & Right on the Doorstep of the Peaks

If you're looking for a wedding venue that feels like a luxurious countryside retreat with the Peak District literally on its doorstep, Peak Edge Hotel — and the legendary Red Lion restaurant — is genuinely hard to beat. Honey-coloured stone, beautiful exposed beams, and that stunning modern Orangery all wrapped up together — it's a venue that just works, balancing rustic warmth with a really stylish, contemporary finish.

As a wedding photographer who is completely obsessed with natural, unposed moments, I absolutely love shooting at Peak Edge. There's something about the place that puts everyone instantly at ease. You get those sweeping, dramatic Peaks views, but with the warm and intimate feel of a brilliant country inn. It's a fantastic combination!

Lauren & Dean wanted a day built around the views, the laughs, and nothing else. Here's how it all unfolded.

Morning Preparations at Peak Edge

The bedrooms at Peak Edge are stunning — proper luxury lodge vibes with loads of gorgeous natural light pouring in. Because everything is so beautifully laid out on-site, the morning always has this wonderfully calm, connected feel to it rather than the usual pre-wedding chaos!

When you have a bridal party in excess of 20 people, your initial thoughts are chaos! It was anything but! Just a perfect, relaxed and laid back party vibe all day long!

An Outdoor Ceremony in the Pagoda

One of the things that makes Peak Edge genuinely special is the option to say your vows completely outside — and Dean & Lauren absolutely made the most of it. The hotel's pagoda sits nestled within the grounds, blending seamlessly into the surrounding countryside Peak Edge Hotel with those sweeping Derbyshire hills stretching out behind it. As a backdrop for a wedding ceremony, it's honestly stunning.

There's something about an outdoor ceremony that just changes the whole atmosphere of the day. Everyone is a little more relaxed, the light is incredible to work with, and the emotion always feels that bit more raw and real — exactly the kind of moments I live for as a documentary photographer.

The weather had some dramatic rain-filled clouds, but the downpour held off for the outdoor ceremony - in fact, it didn’t rain until gone 7 pm - it had forecast rain for a lot of the day. Weather, from my experience, is the number one worry for brides in particular - DO NOT TRUST THE FORECAST!

Relaxed Canapes

One of my favourite parts of the day is cocktail hour - the nerves have subsided (except for his still to make a speech!), and you can catch up with friends and family who have travelled miles, sometimes from different countries and even continents to spend the day with you.

Portraits with a Peak District Backdrop

While your guests are enjoying drinks on the terrace or wandering down by the lake, we'll usually just slip away for about 10 minutes together. And here's the brilliant thing about Peak Edge — you genuinely don't need to drive anywhere into the National Park to get that dramatic Peak District feel. The gritstone walls, rolling hills, and sweeping views are all right there on the grounds.

My approach to portraits is simple: we go for a walk, you two have a natter and a laugh, and I capture what happens naturally. No stiff poses, no awkward direction. The result always looks less like a photoshoot and more like a stolen moment on a romantic weekend away — which is exactly how it should be!

We spent literally 5-10 minutes walking, laughing and grabbing some candid portraits - We were back before the guests even knew what had happened!

The Speeches & Evening Party in the Callywhite Suite

Once the canapes have been enjoyed, the party moves into the Callywhite Suite — and it's a brilliant space for a celebration. Look how stylish the room is for a stunning wedding breakfast below, and before that, the speeches!

The dance floor was literally full from the first dance until I left an hour or so later - signs of a cracking party vibe!
