What is documentary wedding photography?

Documentary wedding photography – sometimes called reportage or photojournalism – means capturing your day as it actually unfolds, with no staged group shots or forced poses. You get real laughter, real tears, real chaos. I blend into the background and photograph the moments that happen naturally, so your photos feel like memories rather than a catalogue.

Do you travel outside of Yorkshire for weddings?

Yes – while I'm based in Yorkshire and shoot across the county regularly, I cover the whole of the UK. I've photographed weddings in London, the Lake District, the Cotswolds, and beyond. Travel is included, so there will be no nasty surprises in the quote! The only exception is for destination weddings abroad.

How many photos will we receive?

Each wedding is different! As a guestimate for a full wedding day, I typically deliver 650–1000+ fully edited images, depending on the length of coverage. Every photo is colour-graded and exported at full resolution, ready to print. You'll receive them via a private online gallery within 4–6 weeks of your wedding day.

How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

Most couples book me 12–18 months ahead, and popular summer Saturdays fill up earliest. If your date is under 12 months away, it's still worth getting in touch – I do take late bookings when the date is available. The honest answer: as soon as you know you like my work, don't wait.

What happens if you're ill or have an emergency on our wedding day?

In 20+ years and 500+ weddings it hasn't happened, but I take it seriously. I maintain a trusted network of professional photographers I'd call on in an emergency – people whose work I know and whose style complements mine. You'd hear from me the moment I knew there was a problem, and I'd do everything possible to ensure you had a photographer you could trust.

Do you offer wedding video content creation?

I specialise in photography; however, every package includes Video Content Creation as standard – no extra cost, no film crew, no faff! While I'm shooting your stills, I'm grabbing short natural clips at the same time. Perfect for reels and your socials! If you're looking for a full wedding videographer experience, I'm happy to recommend people whose work I rate highly.

Do you shoot in bad weather?

Absolutely – some of my favourite photos have come from grey skies, rain, and winter light. Yorkshire weather is basically part of the brand. The only thing that changes is the location of a few shots; the documentary approach stays exactly the same. I always scout backup indoor options with venues in advance.

Can we give you a shot list?

For formal family groups, yes – a short list of must-have combinations is really helpful, and I'll work through it efficiently. For the rest of the day, I'd gently talk you out of it. Shot lists pull me out of the documentary flow and mean I'm watching a piece of paper instead of watching your dad's face when you walk down the aisle. Trust me on this one.

Do you offer a second photographer?

Yes – for larger weddings or venues with multiple simultaneous moments, a second photographer can be added. I work with a small group of trusted photographers whose style matches mine. It's something worth discussing at the enquiry stage so we can quote accordingly.

What style of editing do your photos have?

My editing style is clean, timeless, and film-influenced – natural skin tones, slightly lifted shadows, and a palette that won't look dated in 20 years. I stay well away from heavy filters or the kind of processing that makes everyone look orange. The goal is that your photos look like your wedding, not a preset pack.

How do we book, and is there a deposit?

Drop me a message via the contact page, and we'll have a chat – either on a call or over email, whatever suits you. To secure your date, I ask for a booking fee (typically 25% of the total), with the balance due a few weeks before the wedding. Everything is covered by a plain-English contract, so there are no surprises.
