Owston Hall Wedding Photography : Real Moments at a Beautiful South Yorkshire Country House

I was so looking forward to Dee and Richard’s wedding at Owston Hall – I met Dee over a decade ago when I was working as a police officer in Doncaster, and she was a PCSO! She’s now a police officer, and, well, I’m not! Dee had always said that if she were ever to get married, she’d love me to photograph her wedding – well, the day finally came!

Tucked away in the peaceful South Yorkshire countryside just outside Doncaster, Owston Hall is one of those venues that genuinely surprises people the first time they visit. Striking 17th-century architecture, acres of gorgeous mature woodland, and beautifully kept estate grounds — it’s a proper hidden gem, and as a wedding photographer, I absolutely love it!

The great thing about a venue like Owston Hall is that the vast, sprawling grounds lend themselves perfectly to my natural, documentary approach to wedding photography. There’s no need for stiff poses or awkward setups here — just a couple, some stunning surroundings, and a walk together whilst I do my thing in the background. That’s where the magic happens.

And that’s exactly the day that Dee & Richard had in mind.

Morning Preparations at Owston Hall

One of the things I love most about Owston Hall as a wedding venue is that everything happens under one roof. Prep, ceremony, reception — all right there on the estate. No dashing between locations, no stressful car journeys, no watching the clock. You just wake up, get pampered, and let the excitement build naturally. For me, as a photographer, that means more time capturing those wonderful unplanned morning moments rather than worrying about a tight timeline.

A beautiful, large window in the upstairs serenity room allows soft light, no matter the weather, to fall on Richard and Dee. This is massively overlooked by a lot of couples when they are scouting out potential wedding venues!
