When you think of a luxury, exclusive-use wedding venue in South Yorkshire, Bawtry Hall is always at the top of the list. With its sweeping white staircase, those jaw-dropping crystal chandeliers, and beautifully manicured private gardens, this Grade II listed Georgian mansion is, quite simply, a dream to photograph.

But here is the thing — and it is something I always say to couples who book me here. You do not need to spend hours posing stiffly to match the grandeur of the architecture. The very best weddings at Bawtry Hall are the ones that take all of that elegance and pair it with a totally relaxed, fun, and completely unposed vibe. The venue does the hard work. You just have to enjoy yourselves.

That is exactly the approach Louise and Michael took for their incredible wedding day — and the results speak for themselves.

Getting Ready at Home in Rossington

Rather than a hotel suite, Louise got ready for her wedding day in the most perfect setting imaginable — her parents' home in Rossington, just around the corner from St Michael's Church. And honestly, as a documentary wedding photographer, there is absolutely nothing I love more than this.

There is a warmth and an intimacy to getting ready at home that you simply cannot replicate anywhere else. The familiar surroundings, the family popping in and out, the organised chaos of hair and make-up happening in the living room — it all makes for the most natural, emotional, and genuinely beautiful photographs of the entire day. The look on dad’s face said it all.

A Traditional Church Ceremony at St Michael's, Rossington

From her parents' house, it was just a short walk — or drive, depending on the dress! — to St Michael's Church, where Michael was waiting - the church packed out with family and friends.

St Michael's is a gorgeous, characterful parish church with roots stretching back to the 12th century, and it is one of those venues that does not need any dressing up whatsoever. Those ancient stone walls, the tall windows, the worn wooden pews — it all creates the most naturally beautiful setting for a wedding ceremony.

Arriving at Bawtry Hall

After the ceremony, the whole party made the short journey over to Bawtry Hall — and if you have never seen the reaction on guests' faces when they arrive at that venue for the first time, it really is something special. The sweeping driveway, the white staircase, the sheer scale of the place — it gets people every time.

For Louise and Michael, having their ceremony in a beautiful village church just down the road and then arriving at one of South Yorkshire's most exclusive Georgian mansions gave the whole day a brilliant sense of occasion. Two completely different settings, both utterly stunning in their own way.

Drinks Reception & Portraits in the Gardens

As an unposed Yorkshire wedding photographer, one of my absolute favourite parts of any wedding day is the drinks reception — because it is the moment the couple finally gets to breathe, relax, and just be with their guests. At Bawtry Hall, the completely walled private grounds mean you have total exclusivity. Guests spill out onto the lawns with a drink in hand, the laughter starts, and I just quietly get on with capturing all of it.

When it was time for Louise and Michael's portrait session, we kept it short, sweet, and as natural as possible. We made use of that iconic white staircase for a handful of classic shots — because honestly, it would be criminal not to — but the real magic happened out in the gardens.

The Wedding Breakfast

There are very few venues that do a wedding breakfast quite like Bawtry Hall. The main dining room is spectacular — all high ceilings, candlelight, and the kind of atmosphere that makes even the most nervous speech-giver somehow feel like they were born for the moment. As you can see below, the natural light just flooded in, bouncing and sparkling off the crystal-cut glass. Before the wedding breakfast was served, we had the speeches, which were very emotional and heartfelt.

The Evening Party

If there is one thing Bawtry Hall does brilliantly, it is the transition from an elegant daytime venue to an absolutely brilliant evening party. The main banquet room has a fantastic dancefloor, and because you have the entire hall to yourselves, the atmosphere builds into something really special as the night goes on. What better way to end the day than by having a beautiful sparkler exit with your nearest and dearest?!
