They give you the intimacy of getting married at home — all the memories already built into the place — plus total flexibility to shape the day exactly how you want it. No hotel or venue throwing curveballs at you halfway through.

Both can be brilliant. It just depends what you want control over.

The Details Worth Getting Right

The Practical Bit

• Location. Your garden might be dreamy, but check supplier access, parking, and power before anything else. No garden? A private estate or local farm works too.
• Weather. British weather does what it wants. Wooden flooring saves your heels from the mud, heaters or fans depending on the season, and a covered spill-out area with blankets as backup.
• Logistics. Toilets, generators, a catering tent — sort them early, and use a marquee company that handles setup and teardown so you’re not stacking chairs the morning after.
• Budget. Anywhere from £1,250 for something simple to £11,000+ for the full works. Reusing your ceremony arch as a photo backdrop, or sourcing flowers locally, both help.

Why It Feels So Personal

A marquee doesn’t come with a fixed layout, so every detail can mean something. A first look under a willow tree. A lounge corner with vintage rugs. Photos of your relationship along the walls. One couple I shot even built a secret basement nightclub for the late-night dancing — that’s the kind of thing a ballroom won’t give you.

A marquee garden wedding is worth the extra planning if you want something unmistakably yours — hands-on, a bit DIY, built around what actually matters to you. It takes more organising than booking a package deal. What you get back is a day that looks and feels like your life, not a venue’s template.
